This graph above shows the publication dates of all the books I’ve read since 2019. As you can see, the vast majority are published between 2000 and 2020 with a fair smattering between 1950 and 2000. Several from 1850 to 1950 and just a few before 1850.
The books I’ve read that were published pre-1900’s are:
Gulliver’s Travels – Published 1726
Grimm’s Fairy Tales – Published 1812
Emma – Published 1815
Wuthering Heights – Published 1847
Charles Darwin on The Origin of Species – Published 1859
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – Published 1871
Little Women – Published 1880
The Sign of Four – Published 1890
The Jungle Book – Published 1894
I’m interested to know what other peoples statics on this look like. Am I alone in these habits? what is the oldest book you’ve read? …drop me a comment and let me know.
What a great idea. I have a feeling mine follows a very similar pattern to yours. Not sure what the oldest book is that I’ve read, probably Of Mice and Men?

That’s interesting! I definitely want to make an effort to broaden my reading but I just love modern writing so much more!

Well, since I get quite a few ARCs, most of the books I read are new, but I do stop by older books from time to time.
