My Review:
Rating: 5/5!
What a book! After months and months of struggling to get back into reading, this book has completely reignited my love for thrillers. I devoured this story in just a couple of days, and now I’m left stunned by its intricate plot and jaw-dropping cliff-hanger.
The discovery of 21-year-old Kitty’s remains, buried in the grounds of an old Catholic school in Buckinghamshire, sets off a chain of events that turns this missing person’s case into a multi-layered investigation involving a ruthless crime syndicate, a wealthy family hiding dark secrets, and a manipulative, dangerous figure who will stop at nothing to preserve his power. DI Ray Mason’s journey to uncover the truth felt almost like a race against time—gripping and immersive from the first page to the last.
One of the highlights of this book is how carefully thought out it is. The story is complex without being confusing, and each character brings depth and nuance to the narrative. The pacing is spot on, maintaining tension and intrigue throughout, with just the right amount of twists to keep you guessing.
And that ending… Let’s talk about the cliffhanger! It should be illegal to leave readers hanging like that. It’s one of those rare endings that makes you want to immediately jump into the next book (if only there was one!). I’m still not over it, and I suspect I won’t be for quite some time.
If you’re a fan of crime thrillers that delve into dark secrets, moral ambiguity, and complex investigations, this is an absolute must-read. Highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a well-crafted mystery with a heart-pounding edge.
This sounds brilliant although I am definitely not a fan of cliffhanger endings. Glad that your first book for a while was a such a good one.
