A Break, A Reset, and Rediscovering My Love for Books

It’s been almost a year since my last post, which feels wild to even say. Life got hectic, and I lost the balance between work, life, and one of my biggest passions – reading. My latest review of The Bone Field marked my first post in almost a year, and honestly, it feels so good to be back reading.

The truth is, I struggled to find the time and space to read for a long while. Work was chaotic, my brain was constantly in overdrive, and the idea of picking up a book just felt exhausting. The only time I managed to truly switch off and read was on my honeymoon, which, let’s be real, is pretty much the most relaxing time in anyone’s life!

I didn’t expect to take such a long break from blogging, but life had other plans. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to read – I just couldn’t seem to find the mental space for it. Every time I thought about sitting down with a book, something else would pop up, and reading just kept getting pushed aside.

But as time went on, I realised how much I missed it. Reading has always been my way to unwind and escape, and when I wasn’t making time for it, I started to feel… off. It took me a while to understand that waiting for the “perfect time” to dive back into books wasn’t the answer. I needed to create that time and that is what I’ve done.

So here I am, finally getting back into the swing of things. I’m not going to pretend I’ve got it all figured out (because who really does?), but I’m working on making more space for the things I love – like getting lost in a good book. I’m starting a new role in a couple of weeks and hope to maintain the balance better this time round.

If you’ve been struggling with the whole work-life balance thing too, or just life-balance, know that you’re not alone. It’s okay to step back when you need to. Just don’t forget to come back to the things that bring you joy, even if it’s one page at a time!

  1. Welcome back! I’m glad that you’re managed to make time for reading again. For me, I think I would struggle to function if I couldn’t switch off for a while with my fictional worlds so can definitely see why you would feel a bit ‘off’. Hopefully things will be a bit more in balance for you now.. Here’s to happy, relaxing reading.
