TBR Thursday – #4

Hello and welcome to TBR Thursday. This is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly Faye Reads, where you post a title from TBR and find out what other readers think about it. Considering I have literally over a thousand books, I thought this was the perfect meme for me.

This week, we have the Game of Thrones series by George R R Martin (synopsis for the 1st book below), I’ve owned this series for ages but never bothered to read as I watched and loved the tv show! I also have a mismatched collection of the books which drives me INSANE.

Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens.

Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.

  1. I’ve not read these either! We only have the first one but I honestly don’t know if I could get into it. I loved the tv show, but got so confused with names all the time haha, I feel the book would be more confusing!

  2. I actually read these before watching the show and I had always hoped that the next book in the series would be realised before the show ended. I am starting to think now that maybe it never will be. I hope the final book, if it ever comes out will have a better ending that the show. I still get angry thinking about that!

  3. I’ve read the first four books and I really enjoyed them. They can be slow at times but I like how intricate the story is. I only watched the first couple seasons of the show and I got bored. Plus I was spoiled so many times that I don’t feel like watching it anymore.
